Conservation and Farm Program Associate
Carl Mattson currently serves as Conservation and Farm Program Associate for the Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA). In addition to his conservation duties Mattson also contributes time towards MSGA program development and provides staff support for the Tax, Finance & Ag Policy Committee. Mattson previously served MSGA as Montana MarketManager coordinator and has occupied his new position with the association since October of 2010.
Mattson joins MSGA with experience in both the Commodity Title (Title I) and the Conservation Title (Title II) of previous Federal Farm Bill negotiations. His work on past Farm Bills coupled with many years of networking, positions him to provide the MSGA membership valuable experience in the coming Farm Bill discussions.
Mattson currently represents MSGA on the Natural Resource Conservation Service State Technical Committee, the Montana Cooperative Development Committee and nationally, by federal appointment, Mattson represents the MSGA on the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Advisory Committee.
A veteran agricultural producer from Montana’s challenging Hi-Line area, Carl along with his wife, Janice, and their two grown children, own and operate a commercial, no-till grain farm north of Chester, Montana.
Mattson has farmed in the Chester area for 37 years, is an Agricultural Production graduate from Montana State University and a graduate of The Executive Program for Agricultural Producers sponsored by Texas A&M University. In his local community he has served as a Chester School Board member, Lions Club president and is presently a longtime member of the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce as well as an enthusiastic Harley Davidson rider.
