North Central Director
Leon LaSalle was elected to the MSGA Board of Directors representing the North Central District in 2011, and will be up for re-election in 2013.
Leon is president of LaSalle Ranch, a family corporation that includes Leon’s father, Robert L. (secretary), his mother Jenny (vice president), and his brother Robert W. (treasurer), along with Leon’s wife Shannon. Leon and Shannon have one son, Tucker. LaSalle Ranch runs a 300-head cow/calf operation and a 250-head yearling operation, mostly located within the boundaries of the Rocky Boys Indian Reservation, of which the family is enrolled members. LaSalle Ranch includes some farm ground which is devoted to raising feed for the livestock. The family also does excavation work installing stock water and irrigation pipelines. LaSalle is an engineering technician for the NRCS.
“My father and mother started their own operation in 1969 branching off from both of their parents who where ranchers,” LaSalle said. “My grandfather, Frank Billy, was one of the first Chippewa Cree Tribal members to enter the livestock industry after World War II. My brother and I have been involved in the operation since we were old enough to ride and drive.”
LaSalle is also the current chairman of the MSGA Outreach Committee, current president of the Rocky Boys Cattlemen’s Association (past six years), and previously served a three-year term as director for the North Central Montana Stockgrowers, as well as one year as vice president and two years as president.
