Western Director

Ray Marxer was elected to the MSGA Board of Directors from the Western District in 2010. He will be up for re-election in 2012.

Ray grew up on a diversified family farm south of Great Falls and was involved in 4-H and FFA as a youth. He attended college for two years then went to work. Ray has been employed by Matador Cattle Co. since 1974 where he has filled many roles, including cowboy, ranch foreman, cow foreman, and general manager. Matador Cattle Co. is a very large diverse operation and is an innovator in natural resource management, livestock production and business management. The ranch’s focus is on sustainable business and resources. Ray has many years of experience in managing business and dealing with other interests including government agencies, environmental groups, and wildlife groups. Ray and his wife Susan have three children, Clayton, Kristy, and Anna.

Ray is very active in the beef industry and his local community. He has servedon the Beaverhead County Fair Board for the past 20 years and previously served as chairman of the board. Ray has worked on the Legislative Rule Making Committee (State Land Banking), spent six years on the Governor’s Private Lands Public Wildlife Council, and one and a half years on the Bureau of Land Management Resource Advisory Committee subcommittee for Wild and Scenic Rivers. Ray previously served as a 4-H Leader and on the MSU Ag Advisory Board. Ray is a National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Federal Lands committee member and has participated numerous times in NCBA’s Property Rights & Environment Committee. Matador Cattle Co. was the Montana Environmental Stewardship Award winner in 1998 and the National Environmental Stewardship Award winner in 1999. Matador is the first ranch certified by National Wildlife Habitat Council.
